About Us

 Mark Taylor graduated from medical school at the University of Toronto in 1980 and completed a residency in General Surgery at Dalhousie University in 1988. He subsequently completed a Masters of Science in Clinical Epidemiology through U of T, and a Masters in Health Care Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. His career began in the Canadian Forces, where he was a Flight Surgeon at CFB Chatham, New Brunswick, and following his surgical training, the Assistant Chief of Surgery at CFH Halifax. He left the CF in 1993 to pursue subspecialty training in hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation in Toronto. 

Mark’s next move was to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he was the Chief of Surgery at St. Boniface General Hospital and an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba. He was recruited back to Ontario in 2006, where he served as the VP Medicine and Chief of Staff at two large community hospital systems. After six months working as a health system consultant in Adelaide, Australia, he returned to Halifax in 2016 as the Executive Medical Director of Central Zone for the Nova Scotia Health Authority until he retired in 2019. 

Throughout his career Mark has worked for health system transformation based on patient-centred care had extensive experience in medical ethics, patient safety and hospital accreditation, having been a surveyor with Accreditation Canada for 12 years. Since his formal retirement, he trained as a Professional Coach, and worked primarily with young and emerging physician leaders. He has also worked with legal firms representing patients and their families who believe they have suffered as a result of substandard medical care.
